BASKETBALL GAME  SUMMARIES
11-4-2006 Win 30-23 vs. Heat
The season’s starts pretty much as expected with a close game with the Heat.  Both teams played a great game, but the 10-0 start by the Nets
was a big difference for the game.  With only 6 boys available to play, everyone got enough playing time.
I won’t soon forget finishing the game with only 4 players because 2 had fouled out.  That was priceless.  Thankfully it was only 13 seconds to
go.
Kudos to all the boys for scoring and contributing.  Chris scored 12 points, plus 4 or 5 steals and rebounds; Blake scored 6 including the buzzer
beater, rebounded like he was fighting for a gold coin; Jonathan scored 5, and make 6 steals; Tim made 4 points, Luke and Noah each had a
bucket, and a number of steals each.  Rebounding and steals made the difference in this game.  We have a lot of room to improve, but a nice
win to start the season.

11-5-2006 Win 28-13 vs. Celtics
While the Bears were in the process of losing, 9 boys from the Nets came to play hard.  Scores at the quarters were: 1st 7-2, 2nd 17-2, 3rd 24-3,
and 4th 28-13.  The only negative to this game was turnovers at the end, which gave up most of the points.  Nice passing by all the boys, and
everyone contributed.  The “Tall Trees”, Blake and Paul controlled the lane all game.  Paul had 8 rebounds, Blake had 8 points and 4 or 5
rebounds.  Josh had a couple of steals, and some nice play at the point.  Jonathan had 2 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds.  Tim had 6 points,
and some nice drives to the basket.  Luke had a couple of steals, and several assists.  Chris had 6 points, a bunch of rebounds and steals, Noah
had 4 points, and some nice rebounds, and Jack had 4 rebounds and some nice steals.  Someone else had another bucket as well, sorry that
didn’t make my book.  You know who you are, and you did a good job.  A fun game that was well played by the Nets on offense and defense.
Great improvement from yesterday, and keep up the good work!

11-11-2006 Loss 28-44 vs. Magic
Unfortunately not much went right in this game. We didn’t play well, didn’t coach well, and the score didn’t turn out very well.  However, there is
room for improvement, and opportunity, and it is just a basketball game.  We will do better next time.  Go Nets!

11-18-2006 Win 30-29 vs. Bulls
Our shooting was a little rough, and ball handling is an area of improvement as well, but the boys played a better second half, and came out
with a win.  The boys were in the lead after the first quarter, 6-3, down 7-18 at the half, but pulled out the win 30-29 at the end.  Great shot by
Jonathan to give us the lead for good. (Jake was watching on that shot).
Great 2nd half for Chris with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Great hustle and scrap by Noah with a bucket, a couple of steals, and 4
rebounds.  Paul with 7 rebounds and 4 points.  Blake with 2 points, and 4 rebounds.  Luke with great second half defense that caused a number
of turnovers, and good job with handling the ball.  Josh with 9 points, and a couple of steals.

Without a doubt my favorite part of the whole season was the look on everyone’s faces when we finish the game (last 1:30) with only 4 players on
the floor.  Blake, Noah, Jonathan and Luke, you guys thought I was crazy, but the 4 of you, pulled together, DIDN’T PANIC, and pulled out the
win.  That took some real heart, and a little luck too.  Great win, Nets!

12-2-2006 Win 44-17 vs. Lakers
There’s nothing like a few weeks off to throw help a team lose focus, and forget what they have worked on.  Well, that didn’t happen with the
boys this time.  After an interesting practice the night before, the Nets stormed out, and rolled to a great win.  Wow would be the work describing
our fast break.  20 points on the fast break helped the boys never have the game in doubt.
The score was 9-1 after the 1st quarter, a 12 point lead at halftime, and 27-15 after 3.  Everybody contributed, and made for a great team win.
Jonathan led the scoring with 14, Chris had 10, Tim had 8, Josh 4, Jack 4, Noah 2, and Blake 2.  The huge difference in the game was Paul,
Blake, and Chris’ rebounding.  They just ate up the boards.  Josh had 3 assists, Chris had 3, and Chris had 4 steals.  Great game by everyone!
This was Jack’s best game so far, and Jonathan’s as well.  Great job, to the 4-1 Nets.  Go Nets!

12-9-06 Win 29-26 vs. Heat
This game started like the last game against the Heat, except this time with the Heat doing all the scoring.  Last time it was us.  This time
around, the Heat had a full team, and additional rebounding from Austin.  The Nets were still in the hole after the first half, but a strong
defensive second led to a good win despite a nice buzzer beater from Adam.  Paul and Blake both provided strong rebounding.  Paul also
added a couple of steals.  Blake scored 4 points, and showed some nice moves in the lane.  Josh tossed in 4 points.  Tim lead the way with 8
points, and some nice passing. Luke kept us in the game with a nice shot, a great steal, and a good layup, and 4 points.  Noah added 3 points.
Chris scored 3 and added 3 steals.  Jonathan added 5 points, and 4 rebounds.  Jack added a bucket, and a couple of rebounds.  A nice win
against a very tall, physical, good team.  I told Jonathan that the Heat would be tough at the beginning of the season, and they were.  If we see
them again it will be in the tourney, but for now we took two games from the solid Heat team.  Great job Nets!

12-10-06 Win 34-17 vs. Celtics
Chris hit 10 points, had a bunch of steals, and rebounds, and passed with excellent skill.  For many parts of this game, the boys played some
very good unselfish basketball.  Jonathan added 8 points, and a rebound.  Josh added 4 points, and an assist.  Noah added a bucket, and some
scrappy defensive play, good picks, and rebounding.  Blake dominated the lane with 6 points, and 9 rebounds.  This was by far Blake’s best
game with some outstanding moves down low.  Jack had some nice rebounding with 4, and ripped the ball away more than once from a
defender.  Luke hit a bucket, and played some nice defense.  Tim only scored 2 points, and had 1 rebound, but contributed to a whole bunch
more with great moves, and outstanding passing.  Overall a good win for a the boys, and solid play, despite how much I moved them around.
Nice job Nets, on to Arlington Heights!  Good luck.

Arlington Heights Tourney
The boys went 0-3 in our first tourney.  Jitters, full court press, Paul’s hurt ankle and missed shots kept us from getting wins, but didn’t keep the
boys from playing harder each game.  The final game on Sunday with only 6 healthy players, we were tied with 6 minutes to go, but ran out of
gas.  Great job to the boys for trying harder, and not giving up.

1-6-2007 Win 34-17 vs. Magic
Hard to believe it’s been almost a month since we played a league game, but that’s how it goes.  A nice win by the boys in a rematch of our
only loss so far this league season.  Highlighted by 12 points by Chris and 6 steals, 10 by Tim, 9 rebounds by Paul, 4 points by Blake, a couple
rebounds and a couple steals by Jonathan, 4 points by Josh, 2 by Luke ,2 by Noah, and a steal by Jack.  The boys pulled away in the 2nd half,
and scored 26, while holding the other team to 8.  Nice win, nice defense, Great job Nets!

1-7-2007 Win 37-25 vs. Bulls
This was a strange game.  Too many players on the court, and a technical, some rough and tumble play, and just a good game to get a win,
and get done with.  Josh put in 4 points, Jonathan had 8 and 3 rebounds, Paul had 4 and 4 rebounds, Luke had a couple steals, and played
some good defense, Blake had 4 rebounds, Chris had 11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and a free throw, Noah had a couple
rebounds, Tim scored 10, and had a couple assists, and Jack scored 4.
The scoring went 1st 9-6 us, 2nd 17-15 us, 3rd 25-21 us, and 37-25 was the final.  Great job boys, and good luck soon.

1-9-07 Win vs. Glen Ellyn Titans
Still a lot of work to do, but the boys first win against a travel team on our home court in Geneva.  Great job to the
Boys on this win.
Team record.  League 8-1, Tourney 0-3, Travel 1-0.

1-13-07 Win 34-14 vs. Glen Ellyn Titans
A second travel game, and our first on the road brought better shooting, and great passing. Wins are not the goal, good and even great play is
what we are working for. The wins will come. This game was good play, and a nice win in a good game. The score was 17-7 at the half.
Jonathan led the scoring with 12, 2 rebounds, and a steal. Chris passed, and was the game’s MVP with 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4
blocks. Great job Chris! Josh added 9 points, a rebound and a steal. Good 2nd half Josh! Danny added 3 points, 4 rebounds, and assist and 2
steals. Jake added a bucket, a rebound and a steal, and some tough defense. Jack added a bucket, a rebound and a steal. Luke put up some
nice shots, and played great defense on the point. Tim added 2 points, and a steal, and had some nice 3 attempts. Paul added a bucket, 3
rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. Blake added 2 points, and 2 rebounds.  Nice team game for all the boys, taking good shots, great passing, and
good defense. Good job Storm!

1-14-07 Win 42-25 vs. Lakers
A nice game by the Lakers, and too many turnovers in the first half. Continued good passing by the Nets, and a nice win. Luke made 4 points,
and an assist, (nice job on defense and on the point, Luke).  Blake had his best game with 8 points, on 4 for 4 shooting, and 2 rebounds. Great
job Blake! Keep that up, nobody will stop you. Noah played tough defense, and pulled down a couple rebounds. Paul added 4 points, 3
rebounds, and an assist. Paul good shooting, and good choice on passing. Chris score 6, had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals. Jack
added a bucket, a rebound, 2 steals, and an assist. Your best game Jack, nice hustle. Josh scored 10 had 2 rebounds, and assist, a steal, and a
block. Your best game Josh, nice strong play! Tim scored 8 on 3 baskets, and 2 free throws. 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Good game Tim. Nice job
to the whole team! Thanks for missing part of the Bears game to play ball. Go Nets!  Here comes the tournament!

To summarize the tournament in a couple lines is difficult.  It’s exciting to watch a group work together, and play as a team to be successful.
The boys certainly played as the best team in the tournament.  Everyone contributed, and the group was successful.
In the championship a couple of things struck me that I will remember.  The boy’s ability to answer each time the other team scored, and the
composure and hustle for all of the boys.  Nobody got mad, or frustrated, they just played the game.
That is the difference in close games very often, and made the difference in a rough and tumble game.
From Chris driving the lane to score, to Josh with his amazing shots (and tough D), to a clutch shot by Jonathan and timely defense, to some
tough rebounds by Noah, to some
great defense by Luke, to a great steal, and scrappy hustle from Jack (showing his toughness), To Blake’s
strong drives to the hoop, to Paul’s dominant rebounding, and Tim’s hustle and shooting when we needed a basket.
Success is a great part of sports, and the result of hard work by 9 great kids.
Congratulations to the league champs, and good luck to the 8 boys
who continue on playing as the Storm.   Game summaries to follow for the tourney.

Friday Game vs. Heat Win 40-24
A Friday night game, and no bye in the tourney could have been a little frustrating for the boys after a 9-1 season, but not to the Nets.  The boys
took it as another challenge, and a chance to play another fun game.  With a 21-4 run in the first half, the Nets too charge, and made the game
a great start to the tourney.   Chris scored 10, added a couple blocks and rebounds; Tim scored a bucket and added an assist; Josh scored 9 with
a steal and 2 assists; Noah had a couple of rebounds; Jack scored 2 with a rebound and a steal; Jonathan scored 2, had 2 rebounds, and 2
steals; Paul had 6 rebounds, a bucket, a steal and 2 blocks; Blake scored 8, with 2 rebounds and 2 steals; and Luke added 2 points a rebound
and a steal.  A great tourney start, and solid game against a good Heat team.

Saturday Game vs. Magic  Win 37-32
A rematch with the Net’s only loss of the season, started out with the Nets taking a good lead, and keeping up the pressure.  6 players scored 5-8
points, and provided nice balance to the game.  Chris had 6 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block; Tim scored 6, with a steal; Josh
scored 6; Noah made 2 rebounds; Jack had his best scoring game with 6, a rebound and a steal; Jonathan scored 2, made 2 rebounds, 2 steals
and an assist; Paul scored 5, had 2 rebounds, and a steal; Blake scored 8 with 2 rebounds, and a steal, and Luke scored 2 with a steal.  Great
job to all the boys, and nice team effort!

Championship vs. Bulls  Win 36-28
A physical game that had both Josh and Jack taking a tumble, and continuing to play hard.  Everyone contributed in different ways.  Jonathan,
Luke , Jack and Chris provided great defense when we needed it.  Blake scored another 8 points on great shooting.  Josh scored 9, and made 2
rebounds and a steal, Chris snagged 5 rebounds, scored 5 and had 5 assists.  Paul scored 4, rebounded 7, and blocked 5.  Noah grabbed a
couple rebounds, and 2 steals.  Jack made 4 steals, 2 rebounds, and showed great hustle after going down hard.  Luke had 3 steals, 2 rebounds,
and 2 points.  And Tim scored 2, grabbed 2 rebounds, and played good defense when we needed it.  Great job to the champs!

Game 2-20-2007 Win vs. Glendale Heights 33-31
After giving up 12 points on layups in the first half, the Storm blue decided to take control of the game, and get a great win.  Jonathan led
the way with 10 points, Jake had 2, Tim had 4 on some clutch free throws, Chris had 7 points, Josh 2, Luke 6, and Danny 2.  Great
contributions by Tim and Luke with a great defensive double team.  Danny on tough defense and point play, Chris on a good scoring
game, and Josh, Blake and Paul on great defense and rebounding, each with a couple blocks and great play in the lane.  Jack provided
some good play at guard, and passing.
A great comeback, and defensive effort by the team.
